Greater DC Cares Board Leadership Program

Please join us on Monday, May 9 and Wednesday, May 11, as a faculty of business, legal and nonprofit leaders engage an intimate group of participants on models of board governance, the basic moral and legal obligations of directors, financial oversight, and fundraising techniques.

Serving on a nonprofit board is an excellent opportunity to give back to the community in a meaningful and committed way, as well as an incredible opportunity to expand your professional network.

Service on a nonprofit board is a highly rewarding experience, providing opportunities to:

  • strengthen nonprofit oversight;
  • serve a mission about which you are passionate;
  • strengthen your management skills;
  • enhance your understanding of models of governance; and
  • develop leadership skills in the community.

Our innovative two-day training will prepare you for that experience.

Register as a Future Board Member, and Greater DC Cares will work with you before and after the training to match* you with a nonprofit board of directors that suits your skills and interests.  In addition to the two-day training, you will have an exclusive opportunity to attend our Nonprofit Connection immediately following training on the second day.  Dozens of nonprofit representatives will be gathered to provide you information on their organizations and boards, creating the opportunity for you to make a match and start the nonporfit board placement process.

Register as a Current Board Member if you currently serve on a nonprofit board of directors or have been recently elected to one. Even the most seasoned board members have participated in the Board Leadership Program to enhance their board experience.  You will attend both days of training and will receive the same curriculum materials as the Future Board Members.

*Participation in the program does not guarantee election to a nonprofit board.  Greater DC Cares will make every reasonable effort to match participants to a nonprofit board that fits their skills and interests.  Individuals considering joining a nonprofit board should be prepared to commit the time and effort necessary to support an organization's mission effectively as a director.

**Access to the Nonprofit Connection is limited to Future Board Member participants only. Current Board Member participants can expect training on the second day to end at 12:30 p.m.
